An 18-year-old motorcyclist has died after a collision with a learner driver in Barrack Heights on the New South Wales south coast. Emergency services were called to the intersection of Shellharbour Road and Woodlands Road around 4:30pm on Saturday following reports of a serious crash.
Crash Details
Police stated that a 16-year-old boy driving a Toyota SUV on his L-plates collided with the motorcycle, causing the rider to be thrown from the bike. The motorcyclist, an 18-year-old man, was treated at the scene by paramedics for life-threatening injuries and rushed to Wollongong Hospital in critical condition. Despite efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Driver and Supervisor Unharmed
The learner driver and his supervising adult were both uninjured in the incident. They were taken to Shellharbour Hospital for mandatory testing as part of standard procedure.
Investigation Underway
A crime scene has been established, and police are investigating the circumstances of the crash. Authorities are urging anyone with information, CCTV footage, or dashcam recordings to contact local police. The incident has left the community in shock as they mourn the loss of the young motorcyclist.
