Woman held at knifepoint in Melbourne carjacking

A woman has survived a terrifying ordeal after being held at knifepoint while trying to do her laundry in Melbourne. Police said the 44-year-old woman parked at a shopping centre on Taylors Rd in Delahey, in the city’s northwest, to go to a laundromat about 7.35pm on Friday. She got out of her car and began taking out her washing when she was approached from behind and felt a blade at her neck and shoulder.

Armed Teenager Demanded Keys

Police said a 16-year-old boy armed with a machete demanded the woman’s car keys as well as some other items belonging to her before he jumped in the car. The teenager was unsuccessfully trying to start the car when two good Samaritans intervened and challenged the boy, before he ran from the scene.

Arrest and Charges

Police patrolling the area found and arrested the boy, from Ballarat, near Kings Rd. He has since been charged with attempted aggravated carjacking. He was held to appear before a children’s court on Saturday.
