ACT man dies after car hits fallen tree at Cowra

An 81-year-old man believed to be from Canberra has died after the car he was driving crashed into a fallen tree at Cowra in central-western New South Wales.

NSW police said emergency services were called to the Lachlan Valley Way at Cowra shortly before 3am on Thursday, July 2, 2026, after a car hit a tree that had fallen across the road. The area had been hit by a storm on Wednesday night, and State Emergency Service (SES) members were working nearby to clear the road when the crash occurred.

The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, died at the scene. Police believe he is from the Australian Capital Territory.
