Two individuals have been transported to hospital following a serious multi-vehicle collision at Port Stephens on Tuesday afternoon. Emergency services responded to the incident on Nelson Bay Road near the Fullerton Cove Road intersection around 3pm, where a truck and three cars were involved in a crash that brought traffic to a standstill.
Emergency Response and Casualties
Initial reports indicated that at least two people were trapped inside their vehicles as paramedics attended to multiple patients at the scene. A spokesperson for NSW Ambulance confirmed that four individuals were assessed by medical teams, with two subsequently taken to hospital for further treatment. The extent of their injuries remains unknown at this stage.
Firefighters and Rescue Efforts
At least 10 firefighters worked diligently to free those trapped in the wreckage. Their efforts were coordinated with police, who managed traffic diversions around the scene as both lanes of Nelson Bay Road were obstructed. The road was reopened to traffic approximately two hours later, at around 5pm.
