A $5.3 million apartment development in Jindalee has received the green light from State planning officials, despite some local community opposition. The project, led by DTG Development, was approved unanimously on April 16 by the Metro Outer Development Assessment Panel, with the support of the City of Wanneroo.
Project Details
The two-storey apartment complex will feature 10 two-bedroom dwellings, transforming a 1341sqm vacant corner lot at Bowsprit View and Maritime Drive, just a few hundred metres from the coastline. The development is expected to generate around eight vehicle trips during peak hours, a figure that planners deemed negligible.
Community Response
During public consultation, 19 submissions were received, with only three in support. Opponents raised concerns about potential loss of beach views, impact on property values, building height, traffic, and parking. However, planners dismissed these concerns, noting that the building height complies with planning requirements and that loss of views is not a relevant consideration. The scale of the built form was described as "not dissimilar to a two-storey single dwelling."
Parking and Landscaping
For the 10 apartments, 12 parking bays and six bicycle spaces will be provided. Fourteen per cent of the site will be landscaped, including two medium trees and 15 small trees. Presiding member Dale Page from the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage said, "It's actually a very modest multiple dwelling development and the traffic that will be generated, in my view, will be scarcely noticeable on the surrounding road network. All in all, I think this is a great location for well-designed multiple dwellings, which these are, so very happy to support."
