Illawarra Roadworks: Lawrence Hargrave Drive Night Closures This Week
Lawrence Hargrave Drive night closures: Plan for delays

Essential Road Maintenance to Cause Significant Traffic Disruptions

Illawarra commuters are being warned to prepare for substantial travel delays this week as crucial overnight roadworks commence on Lawrence Hargrave Drive. Transport for NSW has announced a series of planned closures affecting the scenic coastal route between Stanwell Tops and Coalcliff, along with additional work at Spring Hill.

Night Closures and Detour Details

Lawrence Hargrave Drive will be completely closed to traffic during nighttime hours from Monday, November 10, through Wednesday, November 12. The shutdowns will occur between 8pm and 4am each night to minimize disruption to daytime traffic.

The maintenance program includes comprehensive road repairs, resurfacing work, sign maintenance, gutter and drain clearing, and safety barrier inspections. These essential works aim to improve road safety and driving conditions along this important Illawarra corridor.

On Monday night only, a more extensive closure will affect Lawrence Hargrave Drive between Railway Crescent in Stanwell Park and Stonehaven Road in Stanwell Tops. Motorists will need to follow designated detour routes that add approximately 20 minutes to travel time.

Alternative Routes and Travel Advice

Transport for NSW has established detour routes via the M1 Princes Motorway and Bulli Pass, with additional alternatives using Otford Road and Walker Street. Commuters are strongly advised to plan ahead and allow extra travel time during these periods.

While full closures will only occur on Monday night for the Stanwell Tops section, Tuesday and Wednesday nights will see traffic controls implemented between Murrawal Road and Stanwell Park, and at Paterson Road in Coalcliff. During these periods, stop/slow traffic management and a reduced 40 km/h speed limit will be in effect, adding about five minutes to journey times.

All roadworks are weather-dependent and may be rescheduled if conditions are unfavorable.

Additional Spring Hill Roadworks

Separate maintenance work will affect Masters Road in Spring Hill on Monday and Tuesday nights. Westbound lanes will close on November 10, followed by eastbound lane closures on November 11. Detours will direct traffic via the Princes Motorway between Five Islands and Springhill Road, with motorists advised to allow up to 10 minutes of additional travel time.

Transport for NSW encourages drivers to download the Live Traffic NSW app for real-time updates on the maintenance work and current road conditions. Planning ahead and considering alternative travel times could help minimize inconvenience during this essential infrastructure improvement program.
