One of Wollombi's oldest farm properties, The Glen, has been listed for sale for the first time in three decades. Located at 24 Coolawine Road, this expansive estate spans 365 acres across six separate titles and includes a sandstone cottage dating back to the 1830s.
Cain Beckett of Jurds Real Estate is handling the sale via expressions of interest, with a price guide of $3.5 million. Records from Cotality show the property was last purchased in 1996 for $515,000.
Convict-built heritage meets modern comfort
The cottage, constructed in 1836, is described as convict-built and is one of the original working farms in the region. Mr Beckett noted that while the home retains its historic charm, it has been recently extended and modernised. The five-bedroom, two-bathroom residence is nestled in a valley just outside Wollombi village, accessible via a tree-lined driveway.
Inside, the home blends contemporary updates with original features. The open-plan living, dining, and kitchen area showcases exposed sandstone walls. A large wood-burning fireplace dominates the living room, which boasts a high vaulted ceiling and picture windows offering sweeping valley views. The kitchen includes a large island bench, a butler's sink, and a wine fridge. Multiple fireplaces are found throughout the house, including in the dining room, living room, and one of the bedrooms.
Outdoor living and grazing potential
The property features wide wrap-around verandahs overlooking established gardens, along with a separate covered entertaining terrace equipped with an outdoor fireplace. Mr Beckett highlighted that the grazing land is suitable for cattle, with approximately half of the 365 acres being usable farming country for grazing or cropping.
The owners have used The Glen as a weekend retreat and operated it as holiday accommodation. The listing coincides with the Heart of Wollombi Street Party event, and an open farm inspection is scheduled for May 2. Mr Beckett noted significant interest, primarily from Sydney-based buyers seeking a weekend property, some of whom may commercialise it when not in use while others intend to keep it for personal enjoyment.
The record residential sale in Wollombi remains a three-bedroom, three-bathroom house on 125 acres at 228 Yango Road, which sold for $3.9 million in February 2021. According to Cotality, the median house value in Wollombi is currently $1.04 million.
