Queensland tradie confronts home intruder with knife

Quick-Thinking Tradie Foils Home Invasion

A courageous tradesman from Mackay has demonstrated remarkable bravery after confronting a masked teenager who broke into his Queensland home. Darcy McInnes, who was working nearby, received a security alert on November 10 and immediately sprang into action.

The incident occurred around 12.45pm at McInnes's Mackay residence, with home CCTV capturing the entire confrontation. Security footage shows a young man in a mask climbing over the verandah railing before forcing open the back door.

Racing Against Time

McInnes didn't hesitate when he received the security notification while at work. He rushed home immediately, arming himself with a hunting knife for protection. The quick-thinking tradie arrived just in time to intercept the intruder inside his property.

"Glad I work close and had a mate with me," McInnes later shared in a local Facebook group, describing the tense moments. He revealed that the teenage intruder "started crying when he was confronted, scared the luck outta the little grub."

Citizen's Arrest with Canine Backup

The confrontation escalated into a dramatic chase across the street, with McInnes receiving assistance from both his dog and a friend who arrived at the scene. Working together, they managed to detain the suspect until police arrived.

Police confirmed an 18-year-old man was taken into custody shortly after the incident. Officers discovered the alleged intruder was carrying hundreds of dollars worth of stolen property in his bag at the time of his arrest.

The teenager now faces formal charges of burglary and theft following the midday home invasion. Fortunately, no one was injured during the confrontation, though the experience has undoubtedly left the homeowner shaken.

Queensland Police have used this incident to remind residents to report suspicious activity promptly and, where possible, avoid direct confrontation with intruders for their own safety.
