Recall Issued for Two Apple Juice Products
Two popular apple juice products sold across Australia have been urgently recalled due to concerns over mould contamination. The recall affects Bellevue Orchard's 1L Summer Snow Pink Lady Apple Juice and 2L Summer Snow Granny Smith Apple Juice, both of which may pose health risks to consumers.
Affected Products and Distribution
The Pink Lady Apple Juice (1L) has been sold at Farmers Pick and Royal Foods in Victoria, as well as through online channels. The Granny Smith Apple Juice (2L) has been distributed nationwide at independent retailers, including IGA stores, and online. Customers are advised to check the best before dates on their bottles: the Pink Lady products carry best before dates of March 8 and March 12, 2027, while the Granny Smith juice is labelled best before March 29, 2027.
Reason for Recall
The recall was initiated due to concerns that both juice lines may not have been pasteurised successfully, leading to potential microbial contamination. According to the recall notice, this could cause illness if consumed. The contamination raises the risk of mould growth, which can be harmful, especially for individuals with weakened immune systems.
Consumer Advice
Customers who have purchased the affected products are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Anyone concerned about their health after consuming the juices should seek medical advice. The recall notice emphasises that consumers should not drink the products and should dispose of them or return them immediately.
Company Response
Bellevue Orchard, the manufacturer, has not yet issued a public statement beyond the recall notice. The company is cooperating with food safety authorities to ensure the affected products are removed from shelves. The recall highlights the importance of proper pasteurisation in preventing microbial contamination in fruit juices.
