Two Rocks Village Opens on Former Atlantis Marine Park Site
Two Rocks Village Opens on Atlantis Marine Park Site

A shopping centre built on the former site of the iconic Atlantis Marine Park in Two Rocks is now officially open, half a decade since the project was first announced. The 4791-square-metre centre, known as Two Rocks Village, opened its doors to the public for the first time on Wednesday, with Woolworths and a BWS liquor store among the first retailers to open.

A variety of specialty food and services, including Jamaica Blue, Amalfi Pizza, Fresh Culture Barbershop, and a medical precinct, are also set to open at the centre in the coming months. The new neighbourhood centre is the first major shopping precinct to open in Two Rocks, Perth’s northernmost suburb. A playground, alfresco dining space, and more than 200 car spaces have also been built as part of the development, which was valued at $16 million in 2022 when approved by State planners.

Development and Community Impact

The centre was developed and is managed by Erceg Management, which operates several other centres across the State, including the Alexander Heights Shopping Centre, 2nd Avenue Plaza in Mt Lawley, Lakes Shopping Centre in South Lake, and the Dunsborough Marketplace. Rob Staniford, general manager of Erceg, said he believes the development will benefit the community now and into the future as the area’s population continues to grow.

“The new centre is a landmark for the fast-growing Two Rocks community, providing convenient fresh food and essential services for locals, as well as new jobs,” Mr Staniford said. “Two Rocks is a wonderful family-centered community with a rich heritage and the design of the centre has taken this into account, acknowledging and reflecting that heritage and maintaining the lovely vibe of this wonderful seaside location.”

Employment and Heritage

Erceg Management said the new Woolworths store has created more than 95 jobs and that the total number of retail jobs at the centre is expected to reach about 120 once the complex is fully complete. The centre is on Azzurra Loop, exactly on the site where the Atlantis Marine Park stood from 1981 to 1990, which was developed by WA businessman Alan Bond.

After sitting derelict for years, the land was cleared in 2021 and despite community backlash over the proposal, including a petition signed by more than 1000 people, the shopping centre proposal was approved in 2022, with construction beginning in early 2025. The heritage-protected King Neptune statue continues to stand to the north of the shopping centre as the last remaining feature of the former marine park.

To celebrate the centre’s opening, a community open day is being held on Saturday, June 13, from 10am to 2pm, featuring cooking demonstrations, free tastings, face painting, children’s activities, and giveaways.
