Tragedy on Margate Parade
A community on Queensland's Redcliffe Peninsula is in mourning today after a 17-year-old girl was killed in a horrific hit-and-run incident. The tragedy occurred on Monday night on Margate Parade, a street typically known for its quiet nature.
The teenage pedestrian was struck by a vehicle at approximately 11:27 PM. Despite the immediate efforts of police officers who performed CPR at the scene, the young woman could not be saved.
Authorities have revealed that the vehicle involved is believed to be a white ute that failed to stop after the collision. A manhunt is currently underway as police work to locate the driver responsible for this fatal incident.
Alleged Murder Plot Thwarted in Western Sydney
In a separate and equally alarming event, police in Western Sydney have disrupted what they allege was a planned murder. The incident unfolded on Monday afternoon in the suburb of Greystanes.
Officers approached a black SUV with four men inside, all reportedly wearing balaclavas, on Regina Street around 5:15 PM. The vehicle immediately sped away from police, leading to a pursuit.
The situation escalated when the SUV collided with a parked car on Paton Street in Merrylands West. Following the crash, all four suspects fled the scene on foot.
Arrests Made and Manhunt Continues
Police managed to apprehend three of the four men after a search of the area. The individuals taken into custody are aged 19, 20, and 22 and have since been charged.
A search of the abandoned SUV revealed alarming contents. Police allege they discovered a loaded shotgun hidden under the driver's seat and two jerry cans in the rear of the vehicle, which was also reported as stolen.
Investigators strongly believe they intercepted the men en route to carry out a murder. A manhunt remains active for the fourth suspect who successfully evaded capture.
