St Matthew's Anglican School Approved: Yanchep's First Private School
Yanchep's First Private School Gets Green Light

In a landmark decision for Perth's northern corridor, Yanchep will welcome its first private educational institution after planning officials unanimously approved the development of St Matthew's Anglican School.

Project Approval and Development Timeline

State planning authorities gave the green light to stage one of the $17.1 million project during Wednesday morning's assessment, marking a significant milestone for the growing Yanchep community. The Anglican Schools Commission will develop the school on land positioned off Toreopango Avenue, conveniently located north-east of Yanchep train station.

The initial development phase will feature comprehensive facilities including a two-storey early learning centre, a dedicated science block, two hardcourts, work shed, oval, and essential site infrastructure. Parking provisions include 102 bays situated on the southern portion of the campus facing Peppermint Avenue.

Expanded Student Capacity and Future Development

During Thursday's Metro Outer Development Assessment Panel meeting, an important amendment increased the initial student capacity from 288 to 353 students for the kindergarten to Year 12 facility. This adjustment reflects the growing demand for educational services in the rapidly expanding northern suburbs.

The school's master plan outlines a three-stage development approach. Stage two will introduce middle school facilities, administration buildings, and additional sports fields, while stage three will deliver senior school infrastructure, a trade centre, gymnasium, and enhanced junior school facilities.

Upon full completion and subject to further development approvals, St Matthew's Anglican School will accommodate up to 1200 students and 85 staff members. Future stages also include plans for a chapel, performing arts centre, and library facilities.

Leadership and Educational Vision

Adrian Pree, current principal of St James' Anglican School in Alkimos, has been appointed as executive principal of the new Yanchep institution. Mr Pree is expected to maintain both leadership roles until 2028, ensuring continuity and experienced guidance during the establishment phase.

In a statement published on the school's website, Mr Pree articulated the institution's educational philosophy: "St Matthew's Anglican School will be a dynamic Christian learning community that embraces students from all backgrounds. We are committed to ensuring that all post-school destinations are valued equally and that every student leaves with the skills, confidence, and character to thrive."

The school is scheduled to open in time for semester one, 2027, with applications for enrolment now officially open to prospective families seeking private education options in Yanchep and surrounding northern suburbs.
