The Western Sydney community of Rouse Hill is grappling with unimaginable grief today after a five-year-old girl tragically lost her life while riding her scooter near her school.
Community in Shock After School Hours Tragedy
Emergency services rushed to North West Sydney on Tuesday afternoon following reports of the horrific incident outside Rouse Hill Public School. Despite the desperate efforts of paramedics and bystanders, the young girl could not be saved.
"This is absolutely heartbreaking for the family, for the school community, and for everyone involved," said a police spokesperson at the scene.
Desperate Rescue Efforts
Witnesses described a scene of chaos and distress as parents, teachers and emergency workers fought to save the child's life. NSW Ambulance paramedics performed CPR at the scene before transporting the girl to Westmead Hospital in critical condition.
"Our thoughts are with the family, friends, and the entire school community during this devastating time," a NSW Police representative told reporters.
School Community Support
Rouse Hill Public School has activated its critical incident management plan, with counsellors and support services being made available to students, staff and families affected by the tragedy.
The incident has raised urgent questions about child safety in school zones, particularly during peak drop-off and pick-up times when foot and vehicle traffic increases significantly.
Investigation Underway
Police have established a crime scene and launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic accident. The driver involved is reportedly assisting police with their inquiries.
As the community comes to terms with this devastating loss, local residents have begun leaving flowers and tributes near the school, creating a makeshift memorial to honour the young life cut tragically short.
