The University of Newcastle has marked a significant milestone in its commitment to the Central Coast region with the completion of its new four-storey building in the heart of Gosford.
A New Educational Hub for the Central Coast
Located on Mann Street, the Gosford Central building represents a major expansion of the university's presence in the area, complementing its existing facilities at Ourimbah and Gosford Hospital. The state-of-the-art facility is designed to create a vibrant setting that brings together students, staff, industry partners, and the wider community.
University Vice-Chancellor Professor Alex Zelinsky expressed excitement about the project's completion. "With the finishing touches now applied and the keys handed over, we look forward to welcoming staff to their new workplace from mid-December, and seeing the building come to life with students in 2026," Professor Zelinsky stated.
Programs and Community Engagement
The new campus will offer diverse programs including:
- Business and commerce
- Social work and social science
- Education
- Open Foundation
Professor Michael Bowyer, Executive Dean for the Central Coast, emphasized that providing students with a quality university experience locally remains a top priority. "This state-of-the-art facility is more than just bricks and mortar; it embodies our commitment to accessible, inclusive, and future-focused education, research, and community engagement," he said.
Funding and Future Opportunities
The $67.3 million project received funding from multiple sources:
- University of Newcastle: $31.3 million
- Federal Government: $18 million
- NSW Government: $18 million
The NSW Government's Hunter and Central Coast Development Corporation provided the land for the development. The university is now inviting prospective students, schools, parents, and industry representatives to a Sneak Peek event on Monday, December 1, from 3pm to 7pm, where they can tour the building and meet staff and students.
Applications are currently open for studies at Gosford Central beginning in 2026, with staff available during the upcoming event to assist with questions and enrollment processes. The official opening ceremony for Gosford Central is scheduled for 2026.
