Australian popstar Delta Goodrem has announced she is ready to embrace her next challenge following her successful Eurovision campaign, signing up to compete on the UK's Strictly Come Dancing. The singer will swap the stage for the ballroom in a bid to impress the judges.
Goodrem Eager for New Challenge
Goodrem, who placed fourth at Eurovision in May and won over a global audience, said she was eager to throw herself into something completely different. “I love the spice of life, all the different varieties and you know, I’ve been so grateful to grow up in the music industry at home and take on challenges and I love learning,” Goodrem said on BBC Morning Live. “So I’m excited to learn from incredible dancers and the coaches, the judges — I’m like, tell me everything you know. I’ll do my very best to give it a go and it’s such such an incredible show here.”
Different from Eurovision
Goodrem acknowledged the dancing competition would be a very different challenge from competing in a singing contest. “It’s a much lesser skill than going into Eurovision, where that’s my voice and I get to like go for it,” Goodrem said. “But you know, I’ll give it everything.”
Eurovision Performance
The Australian superstar delivered a theatrical performance featuring a glittering gold piano, dramatic lighting and a breathtaking finale that saw her elevated high above the stage as she belted the final notes of the power ballad. Goodrem’s soaring ballad Eclipse captivated audiences across Europe, but Bulgaria ultimately took out the title securing the country’s maiden win.
Reflecting on Eurovision
Reflecting on her Eurovision experience, Goodrem said she “felt the whole country” behind her while representing Australia. “It was more profound and more special, and a treasured life moment and I will take it forever,” Goodrem said. “It was so wonderful to be able to be on that stage, to do what I love to do, to be able to just, I had no expectations, I just went in wanting to be proud of what I delivered. And being around so many artists at Eurovision as well and picking up inspiration from them.”
Strictly Come Dancing Lineup
Last season of Strictly Come Dancing featured Neighbours star Stefan Dennis, while Aussie Craig Revel-Horwood is a resident judge.
