Police make chaotic arrest in Melbourne

A driver is in hospital under police guard after a chaotic arrest in Melbourne. Flemington residents reported erratic driving, with the 34-year-old man allegedly driving on his rims through the area about 8.30pm on Wednesday. Police boxed him into Clarence St, a no-through-road, and tasered him as he allegedly tried to flee. A jerry can, a baton, OC spray, cash, drugs, and a Taser were all allegedly found on the driver and in his car during police searches. The 31-year-old man was taken to hospital under police guard and is expected to be interviewed by police. 7NEWS understands that despite the seized jerry can and weapons, police are not linking the arrest to the hospitality firebombings currently plaguing Melbourne.

Charges laid over alleged kidnapping attempt in Rose Bay

Three people have been charged over an alleged kidnapping attempt in Sydney's Eastern suburbs. A 34-year-old man was allegedly threatened and assaulted on Salisbury Rd at Rose Bay, about 10.30pm on Friday. The men then allegedly held him, as two guns were pointed toward him. The victim was able to escape with minor injuries, and the alleged offenders left in a hatchback. Police arrested two men, aged 26 and 28, on Wednesday and allegedly found a balaclava, cable ties, cocaine, MDMA, cannabis, bleach, and clothing allegedly linked to the incident. At the same time, police ambushed a hotel room where they allegedly found similar items, and a 34-year-old man who they arrested. The alleged offenders each face a long list of charges including robbery while armed with dangerous weapon, stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (personal), take/detain person in company with intent obtain advantage, and possess unregistered unauthorised pistol in public place.

The arrests come as a manhunt continues for three men involved in a separate incident about 40 minutes west, just days before the Rose Bay incident. A 43-year-old man was dragged into a car outside a home on Coraki Rd in Bass Hill on May 5. He was kidnapped and released two days later, requiring hospital treatment. No arrests have been made in relation to that incident. 7NEWS.com.au does not suggest the two incidents are linked, as investigations into both alleged kidnapping incidents continue.
