Western Australia's iconic WA Day Festival is set to feature a massive charity sausage sizzle, with supermarket giant Coles aiming to serve thousands of snags for a great cause.
A Sizzling Fundraising Goal
Over the weekend of November 22-23, 2025, Coles plans to fire up a staggering 6000 sausages at Burswood Park. The ambitious goal is to raise up to $30,000 for Telethon, the beloved children's charity. This initiative continues Coles's strong support, which was recently demonstrated by a $700,000 donation during the Telethon live broadcast last month.
Community Spirit in Action
The colossal barbecue effort will be powered by 80 volunteers from various Coles stores across the state. For Coles assistant State manager Jeff Stephens, the event holds significant importance. "This is one of the bigger events that we do so WA Day is a really important event for us," he said. He also highlighted the dual benefit of the initiative, noting that with a sausage sizzle costing $3.50 or $5 with a water, it provides both vital funds for charity and an affordable meal for families attending the festival.
Young West Australians Keen to Support
The community-driven spirit of the event was echoed by local children. "The sausage sizzle means I get to support kids and what they are going through and help them because it can be hard for them to deal with being sick every single day," said Abby Gardiner, 13. She, along with her siblings Theo, 10, and Asha, 6, were excited for a taste test ahead of the main event, embodying the community support for the cause.
The sausage sizzle is made possible through generous food donations from Harvey Beef, Mias Bakery, Mt. Frankline, and PMFresh. The wider WA Day Festival itself receives support from BHP, the WA Government, and Lotterywest. Patrons are encouraged to use public transport to get to Burswood Park.
