Perth is set to come alive with a spectacular new cultural celebration this weekend as the city launches its first-ever Multicultural Festival at Elizabeth Quay. The two-day event promises to transform the waterfront into a vibrant hub of global music, dance, and culinary delights.
A Weekend of Cultural Celebration
The Perth Multicultural Festival will take place on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 November from 5pm to 9pm each evening. This family-friendly celebration offers visitors an immersive journey through Western Australia's rich cultural tapestry, featuring everything from kids' workshops to diverse cultural activities and an extensive selection of international food trucks.
Lord Mayor Bruce Reynolds expressed enthusiasm for this new addition to Perth's event calendar, highlighting its significance in celebrating the city's diversity. "Perth is proudly home to people from all corners of the globe and this event will bring our community together to celebrate the many cultures, languages and traditions that shape our city," he said.
World-Class Performances and Stunning Finale
The festival will showcase performances from ten cultural groups representing nations across the globe, including Brazil, Burundi, China, Germany, Hungary, India, Japan, Mexico, South Sudan, Thailand, and local Noongar communities. All performances will take place on the iconic floating stage at the heart of Elizabeth Quay.
The celebrations will culminate in a breathtaking finale each evening, featuring an original soundtrack by renowned Noongar singer-songwriter Phil Walleystack, followed by a dazzling fireworks display over the Quay.
Community Support and Practical Information
Lotterywest Acting CEO Lorna Pritchard confirmed the organization's support for the inaugural event, noting it represents the first of many community events happening across Perth this summer. "Lotterywest is proud to support community events that bring people together to celebrate the many wonderful contributions all Western Australians make to our great State," Ms Pritchard stated.
Visitors can take advantage of three hours free parking at CPP Cultural Centre, Pier Street, and His Majesty's car parks. Additionally, public transport will be free on Sunday, making it easier for families to access the festivities.
