Wollongong's Beloved Santa Fest Makes a Festive Comeback
The iconic Santa Fest is officially returning to Wollongong in 2025, with organisers confirming the Christmas celebration will take place on Saturday, December 13. After facing cancellation and a subsequent revival, this year's event will be hosted exclusively at the North Gong Hotel, marking a new chapter for the popular festive gathering.
A Revamped Celebration With Community at Heart
North Gong Hotel publican Joshua Hill has committed to continuing the Santa Fest tradition, despite other venues withdrawing from the 2025 event. 'We're in the rebuilding phase after COVID,' Mr Hill explained, reflecting on the event's journey from attracting upwards of 18,000 people pre-pandemic to seeing numbers drop dramatically to just over 3000 attendees.
Last year's gathering saw approximately 2500 participants, and Mr Hill remains optimistic about this year's turnout. 'The set-up was great last year, there was a bit more of a party vibe. We're just super keen to jump back into it,' he said.
The hotel has curated an impressive entertainment lineup featuring seven music acts, including Tigerlily, Helena Ellis, The Villains, A-Shuffle, Jonnie S, DJ 13, and Felixx. The event runs from 2pm until midnight, with organisers hopeful of attracting thousands of festive revellers.
Supporting Local Charities Through Festive Cheer
This year's Santa Fest maintains its charitable focus, raising crucial funds for two important local organisations: Talk2MeBro and the Disabled Surfers Association.
Jack Brown, director of Talk2MeBro, emphasised the significance of community support. 'These contributions play a vital role in helping us continue our mission: to create connection, support those doing it tough, and work towards an Australia without suicide,' Mr Brown said. The funds will support free community events and outreach programs in schools and workplaces.
Ian Picton, president of the Disabled Surfers Association, highlighted the organisation's reliance on community backing. 'DSASC is not government funded and relies solely on the local community and business support to maintain our service, so these funds through Santa Fest are imperative to keeping us going,' he explained. The charity provides safe surf experiences for people from Thirroul to Mollymook.
Mr Hill reinforced the event's community spirit, stating: 'We are thrilled to bring Santa Fest back for another year, continuing our tradition of giving back to the community. It's a fantastic opportunity for families and friends to come together, enjoy some festive cheer, and most importantly, support the incredible work of Disabled Surfers Association and Talk2MeBro.'
Join the Festive Fun
Organisers are encouraging attendees to fully embrace the Christmas spirit by dressing up in their most colourful festive outfits. The event promises to transform the North Gong Hotel into a sea of red and white as hundreds of Santas and festive characters gather for what promises to be one of Wollongong's most joyful Christmas parties.
Entry to Santa Fest 2025 is $10 plus booking fee, with tickets now available for purchase. Whether you're a long-time Santa Fest enthusiast or new to the tradition, this year's event offers the perfect opportunity to celebrate the festive season while supporting vital local causes.
