The Adelaide community is reeling from the tragic loss of a young father who died after being struck by a vehicle in what police are treating as a hit-and-run incident.
A Life Cut Short
Daniel 'DJ' Harrison, aged 25, was hit on Hillier Road in Hillier just before 8pm on Tuesday evening. The beloved father had recently celebrated his daughter's fourth birthday and was an active player for the Brahma Lodge Football Club.
Emergency services rushed to the scene after receiving reports of the collision, but despite the efforts of first responders, Harrison succumbed to his injuries a short time after arriving at hospital.
Driver Flees Scene
In a development that has shocked the local community, the vehicle involved allegedly failed to stop at the scene and sped away, leaving the critically injured Harrison on the roadside.
Major Crash investigators worked through the night at the Hillier Road location, gathering evidence and attempting to piece together the circumstances that led to the young father's untimely death.
Police Appeal for Information
On Wednesday, SA Police Commissioner Grant Stevens made a direct appeal to the driver responsible, stating authorities were "obviously calling for that person to come forward."
Police are urging anyone with information about the incident or the vehicle involved to contact authorities immediately. The hit-and-run has left a family without their beloved father and a community grappling with the senseless nature of the tragedy.
Harrison's passion for football and his dedication to his young daughter were highlighted by friends and family members as they shared tributes online, painting a picture of a much-loved community member whose life ended far too soon.
