Elderly Woman Targeted in Evening Park Attack

Police in the Hunter region have launched a major investigation after a woman in her 80s was sexually assaulted while walking in a Maitland-area park on Monday night. The disturbing incident occurred in Brooklyn Park, Ashtonfield, at approximately 7:20pm on November 17, 2025.

Violent Confrontation in Community Park

The elderly victim was walking between Kilkenny Circuit and Chelmsford Drive when she was suddenly knocked to the ground by a male assailant. The attacker then attempted to sexually assault the woman before fleeing the scene on a push scooter.

Following the attack, the woman managed to contact a family member who immediately alerted authorities. Paramedics transported the octogenarian to hospital for treatment and support following the traumatic ordeal.

Major Police Operation Underway

Local detectives from Maitland Police District have established Strike Force Bosgar to investigate the sexual assault. They're being assisted by specialists from the State Crime Command's Sex Crimes Squad.

Investigators have released a description of a person they believe may assist with inquiries. He's described as:

  • Aged in his mid-to-late teens
  • Having a dark complexion
  • Last seen wearing a black t-shirt and black shorts
  • Riding a push scooter when leaving the park

Police are urging anyone who was in the vicinity of Brooklyn Park between 7pm and 8pm on Monday night to come forward. They're particularly interested in speaking to potential witnesses and obtaining any CCTV or dash camera footage that might capture the suspect or his movements.
