Tiger Shark Captured on Video
Extraordinary footage showing a three-metre tiger shark taking massive bites out of the whale stunned social media users after it was posted to a local community Facebook page. The video quickly went viral, drawing attention to the dramatic scene unfolding in the waters near Mandurah.
By Wednesday afternoon, the whale carcass had washed ashore at Florida Beach, located south of the Dawesville Cut. The City of Mandurah moved swiftly to remove the whale on Thursday, but shark alerts remain in place for the area as a precautionary measure.
Drone Photographer Captures Rare Images
Drone photographer M.E. Photography was fortunate enough to capture still photos of the whale lying on the shore, providing a unique perspective of the event. The images show the massive marine mammal beached on the sand, drawing both curiosity and concern from locals.
Florida Beach is situated just minutes from Pyramid Beach, where 15-year-old local surfer Zac Hlaing was bitten on the foot by a shark in 2024. Additionally, only a few kilometres north lies Gearies Beach, where surfer Ben Gerring, aged 29, tragically lost his life in a shark attack almost a decade ago.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation and advise beachgoers to remain vigilant and adhere to any active shark warnings.
