Fire and Rescue NSW crews from Lambton and Mayfield West brigades responded to a house fire on Andrew Close just before 3:30pm on May 25. Firefighters arrived to find smoke billowing from the roof of a single-storey home. They gained entry and extinguished the fire, which was contained to the kitchen area, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the residence.
Investigation Underway
A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesperson confirmed that the house suffered water and smoke damage as a result of the emergency operation. NSW Police attended the scene, and officers from Newcastle have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.
Safety Reminder
The FRNSW spokesperson emphasised that the leading cause of house fires in NSW is leaving cooking unattended. They urged residents to stay in the kitchen while cooking and to turn off the stove before leaving.
Earlier on Monday, firefighters from Abermain, Rutherford, Branxton and Singleton stations responded to a truck rollover on the Golden Highway near Range Road around 9:15am. Crews conducted a significant clean-up operation to make the scene safe and restore the roadway. No serious injuries were reported.
