Close Encounter Prompts Immediate Shark Warning

A recreational diver had a startling encounter with a shark off the coast of Western Australia's South West, leading to an official warning for beachgoers. The incident occurred near the popular Gnarabup boat ramp, close to Prevelly, on Tuesday afternoon.

Details of the Underwater Encounter

The diver was in the water, approximately 30 metres offshore, and was diving for rock lobster when the encounter happened. At around 4:30 PM on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, a 2.5-metre white shark bumped into the individual.

Fortunately, the diver did not sustain any injuries from the interaction and was able to exit the water safely. The event, however, was significant enough to trigger an immediate response from authorities.
