Perth drivers are being warned to prepare for significant nighttime disruptions as a major section of the Mitchell Freeway prepares to shut down for essential maintenance works.
Closure Details and Timing
The Mitchell Freeway southbound will be completely closed between Reid Highway and Karrinyup Road from Tuesday, November 25 until Thursday, November 27. The shutdown will occur nightly between 9:00 PM and 4:00 AM to minimise impact on peak hour traffic.
Main Roads WA has confirmed these closures are necessary to allow critical maintenance work to be completed safely on the busy freeway corridor. The road authority has already installed advance warning signage throughout the area to alert motorists about the upcoming disruptions.
Detour Routes and Additional Changes
Official detour routes have been established to redirect traffic around the closed section of the Mitchell Freeway. Drivers are strongly advised to follow the signed detours and allow extra travel time for their journeys during the affected hours.
This scheduled closure adds to recent traffic changes along the corridor, including the permanent closure of the temporary Cedric Street southbound off-ramp near Karrinyup Road that occurred on November 14.
Planning Ahead Essential
Main Roads WA is urging all motorists to plan their trips carefully and consider alternative routes during the three-night closure period. The authority acknowledges the inconvenience these works may cause but emphasizes they are essential for maintaining road safety and infrastructure.
"Main Roads understands these changes may cause inconvenience and thanks the community for their patience while works are undertaken," stated the Western Australian road authority in their official communication to Perth drivers.
Regular users of the Mitchell Freeway southbound during evening hours should monitor traffic updates and consider adjusting their travel schedules to avoid delays during the maintenance period.
