Emergency Response on City Road
A motorcycle rider is fighting for his life following a serious collision on one of Newcastle's main arterial roads on Wednesday evening. The incident occurred around 5:55 PM on November 26, 2025, at the intersection of City Road and Brunker Road, bringing peak-hour traffic to a complete standstill.
Details of the Collision
Preliminary reports from police indicate that two men, believed to be in their twenties, were riding a dirt bike without number plates when they allegedly ran a red light. The bike then collided with a car, resulting in catastrophic consequences for the riders.
Emergency services, including NSW Ambulance paramedics and Traffic and Highway Patrol officers, faced significant challenges reaching the scene due to the immediate gridlock that ensued. One rider sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition under a green light corridor—a emergency protocol where traffic signals are overridden to ensure an uninterrupted journey to hospital.
The second rider suffered serious leg injuries and was also transported to hospital for treatment. A NSW Ambulance spokeswoman confirmed the nature of his injuries, though details regarding the critically injured man's condition remain unavailable.
Ongoing Investigation and Commuter Advice
Police have confirmed that a crime scene has been established and the specialised Crash Investigation Unit is en route to conduct a thorough examination of the circumstances surrounding the collision.
The aftermath of the crash has caused extensive traffic disruptions in both directions on City Road. Authorities anticipate the scene will take considerable time to clear as investigators complete their work.
Commuters are strongly urged to avoid the area where possible and exercise extreme caution if travel through the vicinity is necessary. For real-time updates on traffic conditions, drivers should consult the Live Traffic NSW website.
