Tragedy Strikes on Bruce Highway
A young man has lost his life and another is battling critical injuries following a devastating collision between a car and a semi-trailer on one of Queensland's busiest highways.
The fatal incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning when a Mitsubishi Lancer sedan travelling southbound on the Bruce Highway crashed with a truck turning onto Sams Road in Mount Pleasant.
Details of the Crash
Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 1am on Saturday following reports of a serious collision. Two 18-year-old men were inside the Mitsubishi at the time of impact.
The Mount Pleasant resident suffered multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, despite the efforts of paramedics.
His companion, an 18-year-old from Blacks Beach, sustained what Queensland Ambulance described as significant life-threatening head injuries. He was rushed to Mackay Base Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
Investigation Underway
The truck driver, a man in his 30s, emerged from the collision physically unharmed. He declined to be taken to hospital for assessment.
Queensland Police have confirmed that investigations into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing. Authorities are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have relevant dashcam footage to come forward.
The Bruce Highway, a vital transport corridor connecting Queensland's coastal communities, has seen numerous fatal accidents over the years, prompting ongoing safety upgrades and increased police presence.
