The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Western Australia's Pilbara and Gascoyne regions. The warning, issued at 2:53 PM, alerts residents to prepare for wild and windy conditions as several high-based thunderstorms develop.
According to the bureau, a number of high-based thunderstorms have initiated in the western Pilbara and are moving quickly to the west-southwest. Some of these storms are capable of producing damaging wind gusts.
Areas expected to be affected include Coral Bay, Nanutarra, Pannawonica, and Millstream. The bureau warns that severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds in the warning area over the next several hours.
Residents in the warning zone are advised to unplug electrical appliances and shelter inside away from windows. Motorists are urged to drive carefully with their headlights on and avoid driving into water of unknown depth.
