Western Australia's Premier Roger Cook has expressed profound sorrow following the devastating discovery of four family members deceased in their Mosman Park home, describing the incident as an "unimaginable tragedy" that will resonate across the entire state.
Family Found Deceased in Mott Close Residence
Homicide detectives maintained a presence at the Mott Close property throughout Saturday, more than twenty-four hours after police made the grim discovery. The Clune family—father Jarrod, aged fifty, mother Maiwenna, forty-nine, and their two sons, Leon, sixteen, and Otis, fourteen—were all found dead inside the home.
Authorities were alerted to the scene around 8:15 AM on Friday morning after a scheduled caregiver arrived at the residence and immediately contacted emergency services. Police have confirmed that the family's three pets, including two dogs and a cat, were also found deceased at the property.
Autism Community Deeply Affected
Both teenage boys were living with autism and were reportedly non-verbal, according to neighbours who wished to remain anonymous. The tragedy has sent shockwaves through Western Australia's autism community, with Autism Association of WA chief executive Joan McKenna Kerr expressing deep sadness.
"We are deeply saddened by the news of this devastating tragedy," McKenna Kerr stated. "We mourn the lives of these two young people and their parents. Our hearts go out to all those who knew and loved them."
The association has urged anyone struggling with the news to seek professional support, offering assistance through their Autism Advisors service.
Police Investigation Continues
Forensic officers were observed coming and going from the residence on Saturday morning as the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths continues. Police have indicated that all deaths at the property are not being treated as violent incidents.
According to reports, a note was discovered on the front door of the home warning against entry and instructing people to contact police instead.
