Driver flees then contacts emergency services

According to Queensland Police, the driver involved in the incident initially fled the scene but later made contact with authorities. A 25-year-old Redland Bay man called Triple-0 after leaving the crash site and is currently being interviewed by investigators.

The motorist has not been charged at this stage as police continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the hit-and-run crash that has left a young man fighting for survival.

Woman crashes into roadworks machinery in separate incident

In an unrelated overnight incident in western Sydney, a woman narrowly avoided serious injury after her vehicle became trapped beneath heavy roadworks machinery.

The crash occurred on Walters Street in Blacktown around 1am on Friday when the 24-year-old driver swerved around roadworkers and collided with a road profiling machine at speed.

Remarkably, the woman emerged from the wreckage uninjured despite her vehicle becoming wedged beneath the heavy equipment. Sunrise reports the driver refused an initial blood alcohol test when freed from the wreckage by emergency crews.

Authorities noted that road workers escaped injury by mere metres in the dramatic crash that required extensive efforts to extract the trapped motorist from her damaged vehicle.
