Twenty people, including children, were left stranded several metres in the air for more than an hour after a carnival ride malfunctioned in Western Sydney on Friday.
Ride Stuck at Height
The ride became stuck in an elevated position, with its highest point approximately four metres off the ground. Fire and Rescue NSW duty commander Gary Nash noted that while the height may not sound significant, it was enough to cause serious injury if someone fell.
Emergency Response
Fire and Rescue NSW crews were called to the scene at Kemps Creek at about 12:38pm. 7NEWS helicopter footage captured firefighters using a ladder platform to assist riders down one by one. Several people remained seated and secured throughout the operation.
All 20 individuals were safely rescued, and no injuries were reported. Nash stated that most riders remained calm and were in good condition before being assessed by paramedics.
Investigation Underway
The ride has been quarantined and will be handed over to SafeWork for investigation into the cause of the malfunction.
