A tragic incident in Thailand has claimed the life of an Australian man, following a disturbing event at a popular restaurant on the island of Phuket.
Chaotic Scene at Popular Tourist Restaurant
The fatal episode unfolded on the evening of December 11, at the Cappadocia Turkish Restaurant in the Karon area. Local police were called to the venue around 10:30pm after receiving reports of a disturbance involving a foreign national.
According to witness accounts and police reports, the man had entered the establishment alone. His behaviour quickly raised concerns among other diners. Officers described him as appearing disorientated, repeatedly nodding his head in a manner that prompted several patrons to move away from his vicinity.
A Sudden and Fatal Rush
The situation escalated dramatically moments later. Witnesses state the man suddenly stood up and, while yelling, ran at full speed towards the restaurant's glass entrance door.
Staff and customers were left in a state of shock as he slammed into the glass pane. The force of the impact was so severe that it shattered the door completely. The man collapsed on the ground outside the restaurant following the collision.
Patrons reported hearing screams at the moment of impact and described seeing blood gushing from a severe wound on the man's leg.
Investigation Launched After Hospital Death
When authorities arrived on the scene, they found the restaurant's entrance destroyed and a large pool of blood on the floor. The Australian national had already been transported from the site for urgent medical care.
He was rushed to Chalong Hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. The cause of death was confirmed as severe blood loss from a deep laceration to his right leg sustained during the incident.
Thai police have now launched a formal investigation into the exact circumstances that led to the man's death. The probe will seek to determine the factors behind his unusual behaviour and the events that culminated in the fatal crash.
The identity of the man has not been formally released by authorities, though he is understood to be from Perth. The news serves as a tragic reminder for Australians travelling overseas.
