The Hike Project aims to get beginners started in the outdoors — with confidence. It is a new event program put together by hiking guides Off The Beaten Track WA and its partner, Australian outdoor brand Paddy Pallin.

Gear Essentials Workshop

There is a Gear Essentials workshop scheduled for Saturday, June 6. On the Bibbulmun Track in Perth Hills, this will be a hands-on, outdoor workshop focused on hiking gear. Participants will learn what they need, how to fit and pack a backpack correctly, and how to prepare for a good, safe walk. It includes a guided 6km hike, and there will be gear offers through Paddy Pallin. The cost is $75 per person.

First Steps Hiking Series

The First Steps Hiking Series starts on Saturday, June 13. This 10-week program features weekly two-hour guided hikes in the Perth Hills. It aims to slowly build skills and confidence, and is priced at $450 per person.

Off The Beaten Track WA founder Tracy Jones says: “People tell us all the time that they want to start hiking, but they don’t know where to begin. They’re unsure about gear, fitness, or whether they’ll be able to keep up. The Hike Project is designed to remove that uncertainty and give people a clear, supportive starting point.”
