Vodka-Fuelled Chaos on Snowfields Bus
A 34-year-old woman's dream snowsports trip turned into a nightmare for fellow passengers and a bus driver after she consumed what authorities described as an "insane" amount of vodka during the journey from Sydney to the snowfields.
Kasandra Ann Macnamara of Hornsby embarked on her several-day snowsports excursion on July 27, 2025, but arrived in Jindabyne severely intoxicated around 5.30pm, according to police documents presented in court.
Violent Assaults on Driver and Passengers
The situation escalated dramatically when fellow passengers attempted to distance themselves from the intoxicated woman. Macnamara responded by kicking one passenger in the legs and punching them in the chest and face before falling over and screaming abuse.
When a terrified passenger sought refuge behind the bus driver, the driver intervened and became Macnamara's next target. The 34-year-old punched the driver multiple times in the face, chest and stomach, causing his nose to bleed and significant pain around his eyes, cheek and abdomen.
The driver was forced to restrain Macnamara on the ground as she continued to kick and spit at him. The assault was so severe that the driver had to cancel the remainder of his shift and seek treatment at Cooma Hospital for his injuries.
Disturbing Police Station Behaviour
When police officers arrived at the scene, Macnamara's behaviour worsened. She spat at officers while screaming obscenities including "f--- you you stupid f---ng c--- dog, f---off slut" before being arrested and transported to Jindabyne Police Station.
At the police station, Macnamara's conduct reached what Magistrate Roger Clisdell would later describe as "very, very disgraceful behaviour." Police documents revealed that she defecated in a holding cell and then used her fingers to smear the faeces on walls, creating drawings with the substance.
She subsequently used a prisoner blanket to clean herself, completing a sequence of events that her own defence lawyer would later characterize as "the most disgusting kind of behaviour."
Court Consequences and Defence Arguments
On Monday, November 24, Macnamara appeared before Queanbeyan Local Court where she had previously pleaded guilty to multiple charges including two counts of common assault, resisting police officers and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Magistrate Clisdell sentenced Macnamara to a 12-month community correction order and imposed a $1000 fine along with an order to abstain from alcohol completely.
Her defence lawyer argued that Macnamara very rarely consumed alcohol and that the extreme nature of her offending was completely out of character. The lawyer stated that her client had been blackout drunk from the "insane" amount of vodka and "could not be more sorry" for her actions.
"My client accepts her behaviour on this day was disgusting and inexcusable," the defence lawyer told the court, adding that Macnamara had become someone she didn't recognize during the alcohol-fuelled incident.
Magistrate Clisdell acknowledged that Macnamara had been "so drunk she did not know what she was doing" but emphasized the seriousness of the assaults and the disturbing nature of her subsequent behaviour at the police station.
