Two men have been charged with attempted murder after allegedly firing shots in central Brisbane before fleeing and setting a car on fire. The incident occurred around 11pm on Saturday night in Mary Street, where police say three men in a car approached a man known to them and fired two shots from an unspecified weapon.
The targeted attack left the man and two women with non-life-threatening injuries. Detective Acting Inspector Michael Hogan stated that the women are not believed to be connected to the incident, and the motive for the attack remains unknown.
The alleged offenders fled the scene and drove to Darra in Brisbane's south-west, where they allegedly set the vehicle on fire just after midnight. Video released by the Queensland Police helicopter showed the car driving at high speed, followed by images of people running as police closed in. One suspect was seen pausing, raising his hands, and lying face down before being arrested.
A 19-year-old man from Redbank Plains and a 20-year-old man from Goodna have each been charged with 30 offences, including four counts of attempted murder, wounding, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, unlawful possession of weapons, discharge of a weapon in a public place, and arson. They are scheduled to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.
Police are still searching for a third suspect, a 22-year-old man from Goodna, and have appealed for public assistance to locate him.
