Police Officer and Suspect Struck by Vehicle During Foot Pursuit in Bankstown
A dramatic incident unfolded in the southwestern Sydney suburb of Bankstown on Wednesday morning, leaving both a police officer and a suspect in hospital after they were hit by a car during a foot chase. The events began around 11:30am when officers were conducting patrols near a hotel on South Terrace.
As police were speaking to a 33-year-old man at the premises, he allegedly fled on foot, prompting an immediate pursuit. The officer gave chase, and both individuals ran onto the road, where they were struck by an SUV. Authorities confirmed that the driver of the vehicle was not injured in the collision.
Injuries and Arrest Following the Incident
The male senior constable involved in the pursuit was transported to hospital for assessment and treatment of head and leg injuries. Meanwhile, the 33-year-old man is in a stable condition under police guard at Liverpool Hospital. He was arrested after police allegedly found drugs in his possession during the incident.
