A record number of City of Gosnells residents became Australian citizens during three consecutive ceremonies held last month.
More than 670 individuals were officially sworn in as new citizens at Mills Park in Beckenham on April 20. The new citizens originated from 62 different countries, including Mongolia, Croatia, Chile, and Zambia, with India being the most common country of origin.
Mayor Welcomes New Citizens
Mayor Terresa Lynes expressed her pride in welcoming the new citizens. "Each of these new citizens has put roots down in our local community and it is a privilege to share in this life-changing moment for our local residents," she said.
"To be eligible for citizenship, a person must have been a permanent resident in Australia for at least four years. This means each of these new citizens has already been contributing to our community and economy for some time."
"By officially welcoming these new citizens, we strengthen our diverse and vibrant community and ensure it continues to thrive," Lynes added.
Citizenship Process
Citizenship eligibility and assessments are managed by the Australian Government Department of Home Affairs. Local governments, including the City of Gosnells, host citizenship ceremonies for their communities to celebrate this significant milestone.
