Four Teenagers Arrested After Alleged Brazen Daylight Attack in Melbourne
Four teenagers have been arrested following an alleged brazen daylight attack on the streets of Melbourne, sparking widespread concern and a swift police response. Reports of a fight and several males "hanging out of a white Haval" on Lalor Street in Port Melbourne were made to police around 3:15 PM on Monday, initiating a detailed investigation into the violent incident.
Footage Captures Violent Assault on Melbourne Street
Footage of the incident showed two men walking along the street before they were allegedly set upon by the group. One man in high-visibility clothing tripped and fell while trying to escape, having to curl up into the fetal position to protect himself from a flurry of blows. The footage depicts him being struck with a metal bar, punched, and kicked in the head while screaming for "help." Passers-by then yelled at the group, moments before they returned to the car and fled, leaving their target behind. Police arrived soon after but did not find the victim or the attackers at the scene.
Stolen Car and Weapons Uncovered in Police Operation
Investigators believe the car involved was stolen from outside a gym in Clyde North, southeast Melbourne, on Saturday. The car was later spotted by officers on the Westgate Freeway around 12:20 AM on Wednesday. A police helicopter tracked the vehicle to a carpark on Shepparson Avenue in Carnegie, where one teenager got out and was arrested soon after. Officers from the Critical Incident Response Team then boxed the vehicle in and arrested three others inside. A search of the vehicle uncovered several hatchets, a sledgehammer, and a steel pole, according to police allegations.
Teenagers Identified and Under Investigation
Detectives are now expected to interview the teenagers, identified as two 16-year-old boys from Merri-bek and Dandenong, a 16-year-old girl from Melton, and a 14-year-old boy from Melton. Charges have not been laid at this stage, as the investigation continues to unfold. The incident highlights ongoing concerns about youth violence and property crimes in the Melbourne area, prompting calls for increased community safety measures.
