Violent Confrontation in the Garage
The ordeal began around 2.20am when 58-year-old Rodney was smoking in his garage with the door slightly ajar. Two masked offenders seized the opportunity, crawling inside to confront him. They immediately demanded the keys to the couple's red Lexus hatchback, but when Rodney refused, the situation escalated dramatically.
The assailants launched a brutal attack, knocking Rodney unconscious and leaving him bleeding on the ground. This cowardly act set the tone for the invasion, demonstrating the perpetrators' willingness to use extreme violence to achieve their goals.
Home Invasion Escalates
With Rodney incapacitated, the intruders stormed into the main house and entered a bedroom where 59-year-old Annie-Maureen was sleeping. They turned on the lights, pointed their guns directly at her, and repeated their demands for the car keys. The attackers then proceeded to rummage through drawers downstairs, captured on CCTV as they desperately searched for the vehicle's keys.
Annie-Maureen described the offenders as "the absolute scum of the earth" and expressed her outrage at their actions. "We just think, you know, how dare you disturb us in our own home and threaten to kill us and have guns in our faces," she stated, highlighting the profound violation of their personal sanctuary.
Failed Theft and Getaway
The intruders eventually located a spare set of keys to the Lexus, but their plans were thwarted when Annie-Maureen emerged from the bedroom armed with a baseball bat, ready to defend her home. The thieves attempted to steal the car but were stopped by a steering wheel lock, a security measure that prevented the vehicle's theft.
Instead, the men fled the scene in a maroon sedan, taking with them the Lexus's spare key, Rodney's wallet, and the garage remote control. The getaway car was last seen heading towards Pattersons Road, providing police with a crucial lead in their investigation.
