Police Appeal for Information in Melbourne River Death Investigation
Identification efforts are intensifying for a man discovered deceased in a Melbourne river last month, with Victoria Police releasing new details and images to assist the public in recognising him.
His body was located in the Maribyrnong River near Canning Street in Avondale Heights on Saturday, February 14, at approximately 11:00 AM. Authorities have confirmed that the death is not being treated as suspicious, but they are actively working to establish the man's identity to notify next of kin and complete their investigation.
CCTV Footage and Distinctive Tattoos Released
In a bid to gather leads, police have disclosed that the man was captured on CCTV walking along Duke Street in Sunshine North on February 8 around 8:10 PM. He is described as Caucasian in appearance with dark hair, including some facial hair, and is estimated to be between 21 and 50 years old.
Key identifying features include several distinctive tattoos. On his right forearm, one tattoo reads "Mum 1964 - 2006", while another displays "Mr Horsepower". Additionally, the outline of black flames is tattooed around his left forearm.
Clothing and Digital Images Provided
At the time of the CCTV sighting, the man was wearing a dark shirt with "BARBER" insignia, a studded belt, black jeans, black socks, and a silver necklace. To further aid in identification, Victoria Police have created digitally generated images of the man and his tattoos, which have been released to the public.
Anyone who recognises the unidentified man or has any relevant information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers immediately. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities seek to piece together the circumstances surrounding his death and provide closure to his family.
