Teenager to Face Court Over Alleged Machete Attack in Melbourne Park
A 15-year-old boy is set to appear in court following an alleged machete attack in a Melbourne park late last month, which left a 17-year-old victim hospitalised with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The incident, which police believe was targeted, occurred on February 27 in the city's northern suburbs.
Details of the Alleged Attack
The victim, a 17-year-old local boy from Hume, was allegedly slashed with a machete in a park before being found suffering injuries on Nightingale Road at Mickleham. According to Victoria Police, two boys approached the victim in the park, attacked him, and then fled the scene. The victim was hospitalised but has since been released.
Police Investigation and Charges
Investigations led police to execute a search warrant in the Hume area on Tuesday. The following day, a 15-year-old local boy self-presented to a police station. He has been charged with multiple offences, including:
- Intentionally cause serious injury in circumstance of gross violence
- Intentionally cause serious injury
- Conduct endangering life
- Common law assault
- Assault with weapon
- Possess prohibited weapon
- Use prohibited weapon
The teen has been remanded and will appear before a children's court at a later date. Police have stated that they believe a second male was also involved in the incident and are actively searching for this suspect.
