Five Teenagers Apprehended in Alleged Crime Wave Across Queensland
In a dramatic turn of events, a wild crime spree involving alleged home invasions and carjackings has culminated in the arrest of five teenagers. Police authorities confirmed that the group, aged between 16 and 19, were taken into custody with the assistance of the dog squad on Wednesday, following days of evading capture.
Details of the Alleged Incidents
The teenagers are allegedly connected to a series of violent break-ins across Brisbane's southside and the Gold Coast. According to police reports, the spree began with the theft of a white 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee, stolen during a burglary on Banzai Street in Kingscliff between 10 p.m. on March 29 and 2 a.m. the following morning.
At approximately 5:15 a.m. on March 30, it is alleged that four individuals forced entry into a home on Skyview Avenue in Rochedale. Elena Parolin and her husband, both in their 60s, were asleep upstairs when they were awakened by a loud bang. Parolin went downstairs to investigate and allegedly encountered four intruders rummaging through the house.
Police state that the group threatened Parolin with a knife and demanded cash before fleeing without taking any property. Security footage from inside the home captured the harrowing incident, with the young men allegedly heard saying, "get the gun, get the gun, shoot her, shoot her," followed by Parolin's screams.
Parolin expressed her trauma, stating, "I just felt that I was going to lose my life this morning. I didn't know whether it was going to be by a gunshot or by a knife, but I just felt like I shouldn't have to feel so unsafe in my own home. My husband and I were minding our own business, for people to intrude into my home, armed, and threatening me with my life."
When she attempted to call the police, one of the offenders allegedly knocked the phone from her hand, resulting in a cut and fractured finger that required hospital treatment. This incident marked the second time the couple's home has been targeted in the past six months.
Additional Alleged Crimes and Arrests
Police further allege that the group is linked to a break-in at Red Cedar Crescent in Calamvale around 10:28 a.m. on March 30. During this incident, a Mercedes-Benz was stolen, and a female resident sustained injuries while trying to prevent the vehicle theft.
In the early hours of March 31, at approximately 2:40 a.m., the group allegedly forced entry into a home on Redbud Lane in Robina. They attempted to steal a white 2012 Mercedes Benz GLC300 but crashed the vehicle while reversing from the property when confronted by the owner. The owner was allegedly assaulted and received minor injuries before the group fled in the previously stolen Jeep. The homeowner's injuries were minor and did not necessitate hospital treatment.
Investigations into further incidents potentially connected to the group are ongoing. Authorities are urging anyone with information, including dashcam or CCTV footage, to come forward and contact the police.
