Woman Faces Court Over Alleged Hammer and Knife Attack in Lake Macquarie
A 39-year-old woman will appear before court on Monday after being charged with attempted murder following a violent domestic incident at Lake Macquarie on Sunday afternoon.
Police Respond to Assault Reports in Blackalls Park
New South Wales Police were called to Charles Street in Blackalls Park at approximately 4:30pm on Sunday following reports of a serious assault. Officers arriving at the scene were informed that a woman had allegedly attacked a 71-year-old woman she knew, using both a hammer and a knife during the confrontation.
The alleged offender then left the location in a vehicle that police say was stolen from Narara Street in Fassifern. The vehicle was discovered a short time later, crashed and abandoned on Fassifern Road, prompting an immediate search of the surrounding bushland area.
Victim Hospitalised with Serious Injuries
Paramedics treated the 71-year-old victim at the scene for significant injuries before transporting her to John Hunter Hospital. Hospital authorities confirmed she was admitted in a serious but stable condition, receiving ongoing medical care for wounds sustained during the attack.
Police established a crime scene at the location and commenced thorough investigations into the circumstances surrounding the assault. The incident is believed to be related to domestic violence, according to official police statements released on Monday morning.
Arrest and Multiple Charges Laid
Following an extensive search operation, police located and arrested the 39-year-old woman in connection with the attack. She was taken to Toronto Police Station where she was formally charged with three serious offences:
- Causing wounding or grievous bodily harm with intent to murder
- Contravening an apprehended violence order (AVO)
- Stealing a motor vehicle
The accused was refused bail and will remain in custody until her scheduled court appearance on Monday. Police have indicated their investigation into the matter continues as they work to establish the full sequence of events leading up to the violent confrontation.
