Young Docker Murphy Reid Commits to WA with Major Property Purchase
Fremantle Dockers young gun Murphy Reid has purchased a multi-million-dollar East Fremantle property, a move that the purple army hopes signals his long-term commitment to Perth. The 19-year-old Victorian, a key player in his ladder-leading side's stellar year, has bought a four-bedroom, two-bathroom home on a 509sqm block in the southern suburb for $2.35 million.
Property Purchase Sparks Salary Speculation
The purchase has reignited speculation about the rising star's earnings. While his estimated earnings for this season are around $250,000, the property's price suggests his income will likely be closer to $700,000 when his contract extension kicks in for 2028 and 2029. Set to turn 20 next month, Reid has beaten the average age for a first house purchase by 15 years.
Home Details and Personal Life
His new family-sized home has ample room for partner Charlize McRae, who moved from Melbourne to be with him, and his parents, who are regular visitors to Perth. Reid spoke about purchasing a property to Channel Seven after Fremantle's win over Gold Coast on Sunday. He had only been to Perth for one night before becoming a Docker in November 2024, as draft pick number 17. Before buying his own home, Reid lived around the corner with Fremantle vice-captain Andy Brayshaw and his fiancée, Lizzie.
Embracing the Perth Lifestyle
Reid has long spoken warmly of Perth's lifestyle and weather, and has clearly embraced the Docker's heartland in the Port City. The footballer follows in the footsteps of many AFL stars before him, securing his own place on the property ladder as quickly as possible. Mentors in the sector, as well as the footballers themselves, encourage each other to use their incomes to secure housing. Renowned footballers Luke Shuey, Matt Priddis, Elliot Yeo, Glen Jakovich, Jeremy McGovern, Jack Darling, and Jack Redden are among those who have taken property ownership a step further by having investment properties or doing property development.
East Fremantle Property Market
East Fremantle values have increased 15 percent over the past year to a median of $2.3 million. The median has jumped 84 percent over the past five years, valued for its riverside location, proximity to bustling Fremantle, and its heritage homes. Set close to the historic George St district, the house embraces modern comfort along with the original atmosphere of a weatherboard cottage. Wide wooden floorboards, a jarrah fireplace, French doors, and an original green Metters stove are set against white timber cabinetry, a smart laundry, walk-in robes and storage, and an automatic gate. The river can be seen from the front gate, and the garden deck overlooks a green oasis with cascading bougainvillea, a row of olive trees, a big frangipani tree, and a garden shed. Reid was unavailable for comment.
