Anisimova’s Ace Barrage Sinks Kenin
Amanda Anisimova unleashed a stunning serving display, firing 20 aces to overwhelm fellow American Sofia Kenin 6-2, 6-4 and advance to the third round at Wimbledon on Thursday. The 24-year-old’s power game evoked comparisons to Serena Williams, with her serve reaching speeds of 122 mph.
Dominant Serving Performance
Anisimova’s serve was virtually unbreakable, winning 85% of points on her first delivery. She faced only one break point in the entire match, which she saved with an ace. “I felt like Serena out there today,” Anisimova said in her on-court interview. “My serve was really working, and I just went for it.”
Kenin Unable to Find Rhythm
Kenin, the 2020 Australian Open champion, struggled to cope with Anisimova’s pace and depth. She managed just two winners off her forehand and committed 15 unforced errors. The match lasted 68 minutes, with Anisimova dictating play from the baseline.
Next Up: A Clash with Svitolina
Anisimova will face Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina in the third round, a player known for her defensive prowess. “I have to keep my level high and stay aggressive,” Anisimova said. “Svitolina is a great competitor, but I’m playing with a lot of confidence right now.”
