Perth's Cosplay Community Shines at Supanova
Perth's most committed cosplayers and screen super fans descended on the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre (PCEC) at the weekend to celebrate the arrival of Supanova. The annual comic con and gaming festival, which had flown in from Sydney, drew large crowds eager to immerse themselves in pop culture.
Local attendees were greeted by a string of past and present Hollywood figures, eager exhibitors, and exclusive panel discussions. Special guests included Simon Pegg, Christopher Lloyd, and Mythbusters' Adam Savage, all of whom have been entertaining audiences for decades.
Cosplay Competitions Take Center Stage
Perth comic book and gaming enthusiasts seized the opportunity to dress like their own screen heroes to maximize the experience. Supanova introduced Pro and Amateur cosplay divisions, giving attendees the chance to compete for awards across several experience levels. Notable cosplayers included Elspeth Erickson and Jessica Lynne, who showcased elaborate costumes.
The event featured a gallery of standout cosplayers, including Rodney & Tahlia Allen, Clover Kuipers, Laura Stacey, Elanor Fisher, Bean Bowden, Sky Biesse, Khoa Vo, Megan Douglas, Amba McManus, Harriet Robertson, and Chloe & Aimee Matthews.
Hollywood Guests and Panels
Beyond the cosplay, Supanova offered a packed program of panel discussions and meet-and-greets with special guests. Simon Pegg, known for his roles in Shaun of the Dead and Star Trek, engaged fans with anecdotes. Christopher Lloyd, famed for Back to the Future, delighted audiences. Adam Savage, co-host of Mythbusters, shared insights from his career in special effects and science communication.
