Thomas Tuchel has warned his England side that they face a formidable challenge against the Democratic Republic of Congo in the World Cup last 32, insisting that the African side's physicality and pace could cause problems.
Tuchel's Warning
Speaking ahead of the match, Tuchel said: 'We have analysed them thoroughly. They are not a team to be taken lightly. Their transition game is very dangerous, and they have players who can hurt you if you give them space.' The England manager stressed that his team must be 'at their very best' to progress.
DR Congo's Threat
DR Congo qualified for the knockout stages after a strong group performance, finishing second in Group H behind Brazil. They recorded a 2-1 win over Switzerland and a 1-1 draw with South Korea. Their squad features several players based in Europe, including striker Cédric Bakambu and midfielder Samuel Moutoussamy.
England's Preparation
England topped Group B with a perfect record, winning all three matches against Iran, USA, and Wales. However, Tuchel is wary of complacency. 'The group stage is over. This is a new tournament now. Every game is a final,' he said. The match is scheduled for Saturday at the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor.
Key Statistics
England have won their last five matches against African opposition, but DR Congo have lost only one of their last seven World Cup matches. The two sides have never met before in a competitive fixture.
