The United States men's national team defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-1 in a tense World Cup last-32 match on Wednesday, booking their place in the round of 16. Christian Pulisic opened the scoring in the 25th minute, finishing a swift counter-attack, before Giovanni Reyna doubled the lead early in the second half. Bosnia pulled one back through Edin Džeko in the 78th minute, but the US defense held firm to secure the win.
First Half: USA Strike First
The match, played at a sold-out stadium in Houston, saw the USA dominate possession early. Pulisic's goal came after a quick transition, with Weston McKennie providing the assist. Bosnia struggled to create clear chances, with their best opportunity falling to Miralem Pjanić, whose long-range effort was saved by Matt Turner.
Second Half: Reyna Doubles Lead
Reyna made it 2-0 in the 52nd minute with a composed finish after a pass from Tim Weah. Bosnia responded by pushing forward, and Džeko's header from a corner gave them a lifeline. Despite late pressure, the USA managed the game well, with Turner making a crucial save in stoppage time.
According to US coach Gregg Berhalter, "The team showed great character to see out the win. We knew Bosnia would fight until the end, but we executed our game plan." The USA will face the winner of the Netherlands vs. Senegal match in the next round.
