The Telstra outage struck at the worst possible moment for the NRL, knocking out the Bunker video review system for the State of Origin decider on Wednesday night at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.
Bunker Disrupted Before Kick-Off
The video review system, based at the league's Sydney headquarters and used for every match, lost its necessary connections due to the Telstra problems. Officials scrambled before kick-off to find a solution.
Despite Telstra reporting that its services were back online, the NRL could not resolve the issue in time and reverted to a backup plan.
Backup Solution Implemented
Gerard Sutton and Jared Maxwell stepped in as the Bunker officials, working out of a television truck stationed outside Suncorp Stadium. This temporary arrangement allowed the match to proceed with video review capabilities.
More details are expected to emerge as the situation develops.
