OG Anunoby scored the game-winning tip-in off a missed three-pointer by Jalen Brunson with just 2.3 seconds remaining, capping a stunning fourth-quarter rally that saw the Knicks outscore the Spurs 28-9 in a seven-minute stretch. The comeback was the largest in NBA finals history, surpassing the previous record of 24 points set by the Boston Celtics in 2008.
For much of the game, the Spurs appeared poised to take control of the series. Victor Wembanyama dominated at both ends of the floor, finishing with 24 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks. San Antonio built a 29-point lead in the second quarter, silencing the typically raucous Garden crowd with a barrage of three-pointers and aggressive defense.
But the Knicks refused to quit. In the fourth quarter, they transformed every defensive stop into a fast-break opportunity and every basket into a surge of momentum. The deficit shrank possession by possession until Brunson drove through traffic for a layup with 1:22 remaining, giving New York its first lead of the game at 105-104.
The Spurs briefly regained the lead on two free throws by Stephon Castle, but Anunoby's tip-in at the buzzer sealed the historic win. Thousands of fans poured into the streets of Manhattan after the final buzzer, celebrating a victory that moves the Knicks to the brink of their first title in 53 years.
Game 5 is scheduled for Saturday night in San Antonio, where the Knicks will have the opportunity to close out the series and capture the championship.
